The XX, brings their own interpretation to Indie-Pop with their unique style and soul, will meet Turkish fans with Vodafone Istanbul Calling at Parkorman on the 7th of August!
Atmospheric English indie pop group The XX formed in London in 2008 around the talents of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Baria Qureshi, and Jamie Smith, when the band members were still in high school. Captivating and cool, the group cites influences from R&B to classic alternative rock.
Built around the duel vocals of Croft and Sim, the group's signature brand of moody, soulful indie rock first appeared on the public radar in early 2009 with the single "Crystalised," which created a huge buzz among critics and fans alike. The group released their debut album, XX in August 2009. The album ranked highly on many best of 2009 lists, placing number one on the list compiled by The Guardian and second for NME. In 2010, the band won the Mercury Music Prize for their debut album. Their second album, Coexist, was released on 10 September 2012.
The XX have already recorded several "rough demos" for their third album, which they are planning to release next year. Although they have been touring relentlessly behind 2012's Coexist, the trio has apparently begun writing songs on the road, many of which feature "stronger" vocals by Romy Madley Croft. Whereas the band's first two records were written and recorded at home in London, The XX are trying a different approach for their third album, working while they travel.
Their concert commitments continue "indefinitely" through 2013, including a residency at the Manchester international festival and Night + Day, a series of curated "mini-festivals" in London, Berlin and Lisbon.
On Your Horizon:
The band members met and started laying the foundation for The xx while studying at the Elliott School, which has also been home to bands such as Hot Chip and Four Tet. The xx's self-titled debut album was released in 2009, while turning the band into a world-wide known name, their debut album also won the Mercury Music Prize. Drawing attention with their minimalist sound, The xx spearheaded a style that later many bands adopted. With their second album “Coexist”, released in 2012, the London band purified their sound even further, creating one of the year’s best recordings. Make sure not to miss out on the group’s amazing performance at Vodafone İstanbul Calling festival on August 7 at Parkorman.
